By measuring the oxygen content of the flue gas, a new comburimeter device determines the comburite index of an industrial fuel gas - defined as the ratio of the calorific value of the gas to the square root of its density. This index reflects the combustion characteristics of the fuel gas and serves as a guide for adjusting combustion equipment when changes in fuel properties significantly affect the heat-processing conditions. The comburimeter thus supplants the standard Wobbe meter but operates on a different principle.
