Ignition signal generator for internal combustion engines

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5502143

An ignition signal generator for internal combustion engines is described which consists of: a main generator consisting of a cup-like fly-wheel which rotates accompanying the turn of an internal combustion engine and which has a plurality of field magnets attached to the inner peripheral surface thereof, and a stator which is so arranged as to oppose to the field magnets; and a signal generator consisting of a centerpiece which is disposed at the central portion of the fly-wheel and which has had magnets attached to the periphery thereof to excite the pulser, and stators that are provided in an opposing manner on the outside of the pulser-exciting magnets maintaining a gap relative thereto; wherein the signal generator is comprised of: a rotor which consists of a cylindrical magnet magnetized in the axial direction, and two disc-like magnetic pole pieces that are attached to both side surfaces of the magnet and that constitute the N pole and the S pole; and stators which are so disposed that the magnetic pole pieces are sandwiched therebetween, and which have a pulser coil wound on a central portion of a core of which the one end is opposed to the N pole of the magnetic pole pieces and of which the other end is opposed to the S pole; and wherein the disc-like magnetic pole pieces have first stepped portions formed between portions having a diameter larger than the outer diameter of the cylindrical magnet and portions having a diameter smaller than the diameter of the portions, the stepped portions having such a shape that is coupled by curves which change gradually along the peripheries of the magnetic pole pieces.
