A new model for security control and monitoring systems can be effectively applied to a variety of security environments. Built on rule-based and object-oriented design paradigms, this model incorporates such functions as intrusion detection, access control, surveillance, and assessment. Recent developments of the Security Console Project at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are presented to illustrate the key concepts of the model. 13 refs., 6 figs.
