A laser apparatus is described with a lasing medium having an optical axis, means to energize the medium for producing an unpolarized laser beam along the optical axis, a first partially optically transmissive reflecting element traversing the axis spaced from one end of the medium, and a second totally reflecting element traversing the axis and spaced from the opposite end of the medium. The improvement described here is of a Q-switch assembly traversing the axis between the medium and the second element.
