Membrane technology is increasingly in use for the removal of acid gases from sour natural gas. Water vapor is also removed in the process of removing sour gases. The dehydration of natural gas in the absence of acid gases to pipeline specifications with membrane technology is a new process concept. W. R. Grace Co.-Conn. conducted a study to determine the industrial feasibility of natural gas dehydration with membranes. Special testing methods were developed to be able to measure membrane performance properties. Developmental membranes were found to offer favorable properties. The conclusion is that gas dehydration with membranes should be feasible.
