Book ·
OSTI ID:5499588

Existing petrochemicals and their basic building blocks, and most important, the economics of processing and product qualities are discussed. Petrochemicals are presented in their respective groups indicating the relationship between fossil fuels and petrochemicals. A critique of current process economics is provided, and potential competitive technology is described. Individual chapters included are: (1) Energy-analysis of the oil producing countries; (2) Aromatics Production-catalytic reforming processes; leaded and unleaded gasoline; (3) Olefins Production-feedstock trends, ethylene production economics; (4) Coal, ammonia and methanol-US reserves, coal gasification and liquefaction processes; ammonia and methanol processes and economics; (5) Olefin Derivatives-polyethylenes, ethylene oxide and glycol, propylene oxide, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile, acrylates, methacrylates, acetaldehyde, acetic acid; and (6) Aromatics Derivatives-impact of raw materials costs; comparative economics of processes-tolylene diisocyanate, styrene, ethylbenzene, phenol, adipic acid, hexamethylenediamine, caprolactam, terephthalic acid, phthalic anhydride, Maleic anhydride and butadiene as a competitive raw material for aromatics.
