Duality transformation of a spontaneously broken gauge theory

A duality transformation for a spontaneously broken gauge theory is constructed in the Cronstroem-Dubovikov-Smilga gauge (x/sub ..mu../A/sup a//sub ..mu../(x)) = 0. The dual theory is expressed in terms of dual potentials which satisfy the same gauge condition, but with g..-->..1/g. Generally the theory is not self-dual, but in the weak-coupling region (small g) self-duality is found for the subgroup which is not spontaneously broken or in regions where monopoles and vortices are concentrated (in agreement with 't Hooft's ideas that monopoles and vortices in the Georgi-Glashow model make it self-dual). In the strong-coupling regime a systematic strong-coupling expansion can be written. For this region the dual theory is generally not local gauge invariant, but it is invariant under global gauge transformations.
