Combustion heater

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5495082
A heating furnace assembly is described for a fluid medium which comprises: (a) a vertical burner chamber, (b) a combustion burner at the base of the burner chamber, (c) insulated means forming an annular counterflow heat exchange chamber around the vertical burner chamber, and (d) heat conductive means within the annular counterflow heat exchange chamber to carry fluid to be heated upwardly within the heat exchange chamber to a suitable outlet for utilization, and to carry combustion gases from the burner chamber downward to an exhaust path, whereby heat from the combustion gases will transfer to the fluid to be heated in the counterflow, (e) a base on the assembly comprising a plurality of vertically stacked manifold chambers in heat exchange relationship comprising a combustion air chamber connected to the burner, a fluid inlet chamber connected to the heat exchange chamber for fluid to be heated, and a chamber to receive combustion exhaust gases from the heat exchange chamber, the chamber to receive combustion exhaust gases being interposed between the combustion air chamber and the fluid inlet chamber.
