Improved concentric workover techniques offshore

Through-tubing well servicing has evolved to a present- day technology that almost eliminates the necessity to ever remove the basic producing tubing string in a well. Complete workovers are now performed with a combination of wire-line tools and 3/4 in. to 1-1/4 in. concentric tubing. The success of these procedures has helped make tubingless completions practical in high-cost directional wells off shore. Additional expansion of techniques now makes the workover of upper zones in dual, triple, and quadruple conventional completions practical and economical. Innovations in squeeze cementing, sand control, small packers and pack-offs and directional perforating techniques have been necessary. Additional developments needed now include small turbine bits to remove obstruction, perforating guns that can be run on pipe, dependable tubing repair patches, and improved methods of cleaning sand from wells without lost returns problems.
