  1. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC (United States)
The NRC`s research program in probabilistic risk analysis consists of a set of closely-related elements, from basic research to regulatory applications. Specifically, the research program includes the following elements: (1) Development and demonstration of improved methods, advanced PRA models, and computer tools; (2) Reviews of risk assessments such as the IPEs and IPEEEs; and (3) Technical support to other agency staff, including development of guidance on regulatory uses of PRA in regulation. This paper provides a brief overview of each element; it then focuses on the specific activity involving development of guidance for use of PRA in reactor regulation. 12 refs.
