Direct recombination and Auger deexcitation channels of La 4d. -->. 4f resonant excitations in LaB/sub 6/

La 4d/sup 9/4f/sup 1/ excited states (/sup 1/P/sub 1/, /sup 3/D/sub 1/, and /sup 3/P/sub 1/) created by resonant photoexcitations h..nu..+4d/sup 10/ ..-->.. 4d/sup 9/4f/sup 1/ decay via direct recombination and Auger de-excitation channels as revealed from a photon energy dependence of photoemission spectra of LaB/sub 6/. The Auger de-excitation channel is dominant for /sup 3/D/sub 1/ and /sup 3/P/sub 1/ excited states below 4d core-level threshold, while for the /sup 1/P/sub 1/ excited state above the threshold both channels are important to a comparable extent.
