Northwest has a multi-year surplus of firm power and seasonal surpluses of nonfirm energy. These forms of electricity are not the energy used to serve Northwest homes and businesses; they are what's left over after needs are met. By selling nonfirm energy and surplus firm power, BPA and the region's utilities help keep power rates to Northwest homes and businesses lower.
