NASA Lewis Research Center photovoltaic application experiments

Book ·
OSTI ID:5489120
In its role of supporting the US Department of Energy Photovoltaic Programme, the NASA-Lewis Research Center has designed and installed photovoltaic systems in 16 geographically different stations. Four additional experiments are now being carried out. These systems are powering refrigerators, highway warning lights, forest lookout towers, remote weather stations, water chillers and insect-survey traps. The experiments include applications of a power system to rural areas for the first time, an air-pollution monitoring system and a seismometer. The photovoltaic application experiments for water pumps and crop-grinding devices to be used by African villages are being prepared with the assistance of the US Agency for International Development. These systems are described in detail.
