Reverse osmosis has become an important tool in electroplating for pollution control and recycling chemicals. Advantages include: recycling of plating chemicals; recycling of water for rinsing; minimal energy requirement compared with evaporation; elimination of sludge buildup; no need for most chemical destruct additions; and compliance with EPA regulations. Basic technology and equipment comparisons are provided. Applications for nickel and cyanide plating rinses and other processes are summarized.
