AISI-EPA-Battelle coke oven door sealing program

Historically, the most visible part of coke oven emissions has been generated by charging and pushing practices. As these sources have been brought under better control, fugitive emissions from the top side of the ovens and from door leaks have become more of a problem. A retrofittable door seal design has been developed, and preparations are under way for operating evaluation at eight steel plants. The design should accommodate the worst jamb warpage usually found in coke ovens. The six tasks of the EPA, American Iron and Steel Inst., Battelle Columbus Labs. research program to reduce leakage from coke oven end closures are reviewed. (4 drawings)
