A clean burn

Journal Article · · Country J; (United States)

Although expanded use of wood resources for domestic heating could help stretch limited supplies on non-renewable fossil fuels, wood burning results in emission of minute particles that can enter the lungs and aggravate a variety of lung and heart diseases. Also, unburned compounds can be emitted to the environment in large quantities. Described are recently developed wood stoves that are designed to reduce particle and particulate emissions. Methods of operating these stoves to achieve optimal heating with minimum emissions are discussed. (1 photo)
