Goal of this project is to predict and control the oxygen ion conductivity in compounds with the pyrochlore structure. The basic approach has been to vary the composition within the Gd/sub 2/Ti/sub 2/O/sub 7/-Gd/sub 2/Zr/sub 2/O/sub 7/ pyrochlore solid solution on and examine the consequent effects of changes in order parameter, lattice constant, and cation polarizability upon the ionic conductivity of these compounds. 3 figs.
