Pulsation-control devices and techniques

This article examines pulsation control for reciprocating pumps. The primary purpose of pulsation control is to attenuate or filter out any pump-generated pulsating pressures which create forces in the piping system that cause vibration and noise. Another benefit of pulsation control is the reduction of fatigue of the pump liquid end and pump expendable parts. The amplitude of the individual pump pulsations are reduced by the use of dampeners on each pump so that their accumulated effect will be insignificant.
