The design, operation and performance of a British-invented automatic transmission which claims to result in fuel economy valves equal to those attained with manual shifts are described. Developed for both 4-speed and 6-speed transmissions, this transmission uses standard parts made for existing manual transmissions, rearranges the gear pairings, and relies on a microcomputer to pick the optimal shift points according to load requirements.
