A field experiment with four-year crop rotations was initiated in Sweden in 1958 to determine the effects of different types of soil amendments and fertilizer treatments on soil fertility. Treatments include farmyard manure compost, uncomposted farmyard manure, farmyard manure combined with inorganic nutrients, inorganic nutrient loadings, and a control group. Fertilization generally has tended to decrease the relative portion of humic acids in topsoils. (2 diagrams, 20 references, 4 tables)
