Interference effects between identical pions are studied in K/sup -/p interactions at 32 GeV/c. Positive short-range interference correlations are observed both in ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup +/ and in ..pi../sup -/..pi../sup -/ systems. It is shown that with use of a background calculated by means of ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/ pairs from a single event, the value and shape of the effect is substantially distorted. With a more correct determination of the background an estimate of the transverse size of the pion-emission region R/sub T/roughly-equal2 F is obtained.
