The integral equations of scattering theory, obtained by the connected-kernel method, are investigated for the case of noninteracting subsystems. It is shown that these equations contain singularities that are not separated out explicitly, while the corresponding homogeneous equations have nonzero solutions in the continuous spectrum. Integral equations for the scattering of two particles by a field, obtained on the basis of four-dimensional perturbation theory, are presented: equations that do not suffer from the above drawbacks.
