Fluctuations and the determination of critical currents in granular microbridges

The reduction of measured critical currents in granular microbridges can be understood as an effect of Langer-Ambegaokar-McCumber-Halperin type thermally activated phase slips. Single fluctuation events which lower the critical current were detected at various rf frequencies and amplitude modulation rates at temperatures well below the transition of the microbridge. Good agreement was found between theory and experiment.
