New measurement of. sigma. decay properties and a test of the vertical-bar. delta. I vertical-bar=1/2 rule

We report on new measurements of the ..sigma../sup +/ and ..sigma../sup -/ lifetimes, the ..sigma../sup +/ nonleptonic-decay branching ratio, and the ratio of the ..sigma../sup +/ decay asymmetry parameters ..cap alpha../sub +//..cap alpha../sub 0/. The final results obtained are tau/sup +/0.798=(ts +- 0.005) x 10/sup -10/ sec, tau/sup -/1.480=(ts +- 0.014) x 10/sup -10/ sec, R=GAMMA(..sigma../sup +/ ..-->.. p..pi../sup 0/)/GAMMA(..sigma../sup +/ ..-->.. all)=0.5172 +- 0.0036, and ..cap alpha../sub +//..cap alpha../sub 0/=-0.073 +- 0.021. These results together with the world average for ..cap alpha../sub 0/ areused to perform a test of the vertical-bar ..delta..I vertical-bar=1/2 rule.
