Direct measurements of electron density, temperature and ion composition in an equatorial spread-f ionosphere. Memorandum report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5470627
Ionospheric plasma irregularities have been studied on each of two rockets launched into significantly different conditions of equatorial spread-F. In the first operation (into a spread-F decay phase) a number of major depletions were distributed throughout the F-region from its bottomside gradient centered near 260 kilometers, through the F-peak, to a topside altitude of 500 kilometers. In a second operation (launched into a mid-phase development of spread-F) irregularities were observed only on the bottomside gradient, with no depletions in or above the F-peak.
