On the combustion kinetics of heterogeneous char particle populations

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5470405

A laboratory-scale laminar flow reactor is used to measure coal char combustion rates under conditions simulating those found in pulverized coal-fired boilers. The temperatures, sizes, and velocities of individual burning pulverized coal char particles are measured in situ with a unique optical technique. The optical data are used to determine global, n{sup th}-order Arrhenius-form kinetic parameters describing char oxidation. In the present article, single-particle rate coefficients are computed from optical measurements on Pocahontas {number sign}3 coal char and techniques for the determination of kinetic parameters from the single-particle coefficients are investigated.
