Mathematics for dynamic modeling

Book ·
OSTI ID:5470071
Mathematical modeling techniques for dynamical systems are presented in an introductory textbook intended for upper-undergraduate and graduate science and engineering students. Chapters are devoted to simple dynamic models, stable and unstable motion, growth and decay, motion in time and space, cycles and bifurcation, bifurcation and catastrophe, chaos, and optimal controls. Specific applications to biological systems, traffic control, and the geomagnetic field are considered; and diagrams, graphs, exercises, and a review of ODEs are included. 50 references.
