Research report:Organochlorine and PCB residues in fish from Lake Saint Clair and Lake Erie, Canada, were determined before and after legislative restrictions were placed on the use of aldrin, dieldrin, and heptachlor in 1969, and on DDT in 1970. Analysis of 18 fish species collected from 1968-76 indicated that DDT residues had declined by the end of the study period. Dieldrin levels increased during the same time period. PCB residues exceeding the established tolerance levels in Canada were found in some fish species. Lake Erie sediments were higher in DDT, dieldrin, and PCB's, but fish residue levels from Lake Erie were only higher in PCB's. (1 map, 16 references, 7 tables)
