GPM Gas Corp., Houston, has started up its fully automated, remotely controlled Zia gas plant in Lea County, N.M. Rated at 27 MMcfd, the plant has been processing approximately 22 MMcfd since it initially began accepting gas in late August 1993. The new plant was designed and constructed to be fully automated and to process sweet gas segregated from sour gas in GPM's existing gathering systems and delivered to the Zia plant. GPM has installed high efficiency electric compression at the new plant to reduce fuel losses. Additionally, processing the sweet gas through the auto refrigeration expander plant is expected to provide high NGL recoveries.
