This patent describes a system for controlling the application and removal of hold-down weight of a vehicle means carried seismic vibrator, to minimize the generation of unwanted seismic energy wherein the vibrator is mounted of a base plate secured to a foot piece positioned thereabove with pressurized air bag means disposed between the base plate and the floor piece. It comprises support means for applying at least a portion of the weight of the vehicle means to the base plate through the foot piece and air bag means; means for moving the support means into and out of contact with the ground below the vehicle means; and means for continuously controlling the rate of movement of the support means; and means for continuously monitoring the level of pressure in the air bag means; and means for continuously comparing the monitored pressure to a predetermined threshold level.
