Lifetime measurements in /sup 72/Br

The lifetimes of 12 yrast and yrare states in the odd-odd nucleus /sup 72/Br were measured via the recoil distance Doppler shift technique and the reactions /sup 58/Ni(/sup 16/O,pn) at 53 MeV beam energy. The negative parity states are grouped into two rotational bands with in-band E2 strengths of 50--100 Wu. Although having similar collective E2 strengths, the positive parity yrast spectrum up to spin 9/sup +/ is dominated by the ..pi..g/sub 9/2/ I = 9.
