In tropical developing countries the comparative absence of nation wide electric grid systems coupled with an assured intensity of solar radiation for about 7-8 months of the year, is acting as a powerful stimulus to the development of systems for autonomous electricity generation. The paper deals with the feasibility of such a system on a medium sized house with about 40m/sup 2/ of solar panel area, and using the solar thermal route for generating dc electrical energy which is stored in a battery system for use in times of low or zero solar intensity. 13 refs.
