The Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) and the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) have entered a cooperative research agreement to perform a series of high-pressure integral tests on the safety response of the Westinghouse AP600 design using the Large Scale Test Facility (LSTF) of JAERI. The primary objective of this test series is to provide thermal/hydraulic data of phenomena that would be expected during an AP600 transient; that data will then be used for assessment of safety analysis codes. The USNRC funded the necessary facility modifications which have been completed.
