Automatic readout of LR-115 SSNTDs (solid-state nuclear track detectors) using image analysis

As part of a study for radon detection, solid-state nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs) were used to measure alpha activities. To process a massive quantity of samples efficiently, considerable interest exists in automating the counting task. A personal computer-based track image analyzing system has been developed for track number counting and area measurement. This paper reports the technique and the performance of the system with LR-115 SSNTDs for alpha-particle detection.
