Dimuon production by neutrinos in the Fermilab 15-foot bubble chamber

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., D; (United States)
In a 326 000-picture exposure of the Fermilab 15-ft neon-hydrogen bubble chamber to the quadrupole triplet neutrino beam, 62 dimuon candidates have been found: 0 ..mu../sup +/..mu../sup +/, 54 ..mu../sup -/..mu../sup +/ and ..mu../sup +/..mu../sup -/, and 8 ..mu../sup -/..mu../sup -/. The ..mu../sup -/..mu../sup -/ candidates are consistent with background. The ratio of opposite-sign dimuon events to single-muon events is (0.39 +- 0.10) x 10/sup -2/ for a muon-momentum cut of 4 GeV/c. There are 10 V/sup 0/'s in the opposite-sign dimuon events, yielding a neutral-strange-particle rate per event of 0.6 +- 0.3.
