The velocity interpolation technique of Bertiger and Padmanabhan (1983), was formulated for block centered cartesian grids and implemented in a fully implicit steamflood simulator. A detailed numerical study shows that the technique essentially eliminates grid orientation effects in uniform grids and greatly reduces them in non-uniform symmetric ones. Furthermore, it was found that for asymmetric diagonal orientations the results agree with those of symmetric ones. However, for parallel asymmetric configurations, grid orientation effects reappear.
