Oleflex -- C/sub 2/-C/sub 5/ dehydrogenation updated

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5458301
Significant improvements have been made in the UOP Oleflex process for the catalytic dehydrogenation of C/sub 2/-C/sub 5/ paraffins. This paper, after a brief description of the process, reviews the new developments in catalyst, process design and gives detailed pilot plant data on selective dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene, with selectivity to ethylene greater than 98 mol-%. The paper also discusses the dehydrogenation of isopentane to isopentene (isoamylene) and the integration of propane dehydrogenation with an existing ethylene plant (steam cracker), or with a typical refinery gas concentration unit. Finally, the economics of propane and isobutane dehydrogenation for the production of propylene and MTBE are discussed.
