A method for calculating the initial parameters describing the process of expulsion of broken coal and gas into the worked-out area of a coal mine in a gas burst is suggested. The analytical relations given for the initial parameters of a burst in terms of the parameters of the preburst state of the coal seam are convenient for practical use, and can be recommended to estimate the rate of possible bursts in operations in burst-prone seams.
