Doppler-shift recoil-distance measurements were performed on selected states in /sup 104/Pd, /sup 107/ /sup 108/ /sup 109/Cd. The reactions used in these experiments were /sup 94/Zr(/sup 13/C,3n)/sup 104/Pd at 45 MeV, /sup 94/Zr(/sup 16/O,3n)/sup 107/Cd at 60 MeV, /sup 98/Mo(/sup 13/C,3n)/sup 108/Cd at 45 MeV and /sup 96/Zr(/sup 16/O,3n)/sup 109/Cd at 54 MeV. The 10/sup +/, 8/sup -/, and 9/sup -/ bands in /sup 104/Pd and /sup 108/Cd were shown to be collective, as the transitions within these bands are enhanced by factors of 20 and more over the Weisskopf estimate. Two-particle calculations were performed that identified the 10/sup +/, 8/sup -/, and 9/sup -/ bands as two quasi-neutron states based on (nu h/sub 11/2/)/sub 10//sup 2/+, and similarly ((nuh/sub 11/2/(nud/sub 5/2/))/sub 8/sup -//, and ((nuh/sub 11/2/)-(nug/sub 7/2/))/sub 9/-configurations, respectively. In addition, lifetime measurements and calculations identified in /sup 108/Cd the 10/sup -/ at 4196 keV and the 8/sup -/ at 3474 keV as a nonaligned members of the 9/sup -/ band, while the 9/sup -/ at 3737 keV is nonaligned member of the 8/sup -/ band. Lifetimes were determined for the 25/2/sup +/ and 29/2/sup +/ states in /sup 109/Cd, while an upper limit was set on the 21/2/sup +/ state. In /sup 107/Cd the results of these lifetime measurements were used to determine the ordering of the 728 keV and 493 keV transitions in the 31/2/sup -/ ..-->.. 27/2/sup -/ ..-->.. 23/2/sup -/ ..gamma..-ray cascade.
