This paper reports on a set of closed-form, analytical equations which are developed to provide approximate predictions of pressure field extension and airflow rates from sub-slab depressurization systems utilized for indoor radon mitigation. These predictions compare favorably to the result of a more sophisticated computer model for a variety of different installation conditions. Within certain limits, these equations will permit radon mitigation system designers to design an efficient sub-slab depressurization system installation by appropriately positioning suction points, selecting suction fans, and sizing suction pits.
