Experimental study of wrinkled laminar flame

A report is presented on the structure of the turbulent premixed flame stabilized on a cylindrical turbulent flame burner. Care was taken to adjust the turbulence intensity and scale of the unburnt mixture within the range of existence of wrinkled laminar flame structure. Detailed measurements of temperature and velocity were carried out, using a fine wire thermocouple and a laser Doppler velocimeter. Results of these experiments demonstrate the characteristic features of the wrinkled laminar flame. It is found that the temperature fluctuation in the turbulent premixed flame zone is characterized by the bi-modal probability density function, and distinguishable from that in the outer zone where mixing with ambient air occurs. 16 refs.
