Grain growth behavior of a alpha and beta phases in alpha-beta Ti-Mn alloys were studied by isothermal heat treatments at 973 K. It was found that grain growth of alpha in the alpha-beta alloys can be expressed as D{sub {alpha}} = (Kt{sup n}a)V{sup m}B where D{sub {alpha}} is the grain size of {alpha}, K is the growth constant of {alpha}-phase, n is grain growth exponent of alpha phase, t is the time, V is volume percent of {beta}-phase and m is grain growth retardation exponent due to {beta}-phase. Grain growth of {beta}-phase in the {alpha}-{beta} alloys also obeyed a similar equation. It was found that alpha phase retards grain growth of beta much more effectively than vice versa. The origin for this difference is discussed. Details of the investigation are presented.
