Title: Effect of strain rate on the deformation and fracture behavior of ductile metals containing porosity

The influence of strain rate on the tensile deformation and fracture behavior of powder-fabricated titanium and nickel containing porosity has been investigated. Measurements of uniform strains, local fracture strains, and elongations to failure show that, over the range of strain rates from 10{sup {minus}4} to 10{sup 2} s{sup {minus}1}, there is little or no effect of the strain rate on the fracture behavior of these materials at any of the porosity levels studied. A slight elongation minimum in the two lowest porosity levels for titanium occurs at intermediate strain rates and is interpreted to be due to thermal gradients forming during deformation.
