Dynamic behavior of a premixed turbulent flame front

Conference · · Symp. (Int.) Combust., (Proc.); (United States)
OSTI ID:5445257
Using the laser tomographic method, the local and instantaneous velocity of the front of a turbulent premixed flame is compared to the longitudinal fluctuation velocity of the turbulent stream in the fresh mixture just ahead the flame front, this latter quantity being measured by L.D.A. The experiments are carried out on a lean flame of a propane air mixture diluted in nitrogen. A strong discrepancy between the fluctuations of the flame front velocity and the velocity fluctuations of the upstream flow is experimentally exhibited in the low frequency range of the corresponding time spectra. A relaxation model, taking into account the time response mechanism of the flame front, is proposed as an extension of the previous theoretical works. 12 refs.
