The crack growth behavior of the single crystal superalloy, Rene' N4, was determined for a wide range of crystal orientations and temperatures. Crystal orientation was varied from (001) and (110) and (111) and showed only a modest influence on crack growth rate. Test temperature was varied from 800 to 2000 F and influence high and low growth rate portions of the da/dn-{Delta}K curves differently. At high {Delta}K (Paris Law Regime) growth rate was lowest near 1200 F and increased at lower and higher temperatures. Crack growth modes in all specimens were in Opening Mode I at low {triangle}K, with noncrystallographic surfaces. At high {Delta}K, growth transitioned into a crystallographic mixed mode fracture on (111) planes.
