CRC-Crose has developed the first line traveling shot blast cleaning machine for pipe up to 36 in. in diam. The new machine is equipped with three 14-in. Pangborn rotoblast wheels with a cleaning rate of 20 to 40 lineal ft per min., depending on the condition of the pipe. Optional attachments include a wire brush cleaning head for extremely rusty or muddy pipe and a priming head. The machine has undergone successful shop testing and is ready for field operation. Steel shot is used as a blasting media. The shot size used can vary from 0.022 to 0.046-in. in diam. The machine rides on the pipe and, due to weight, must be partially supported by a side boom tractor. The machine basically consists of a cleaning drum rotating about 30 rpm containing the blast wheels, a shot feed drum, rotating about 60 rpm in the opposite direction from the cleaning drum, center seal, shot cleaning and storage system, priming attachment and traveling crawlers, each powered by electric motors.
