Investigation of soybean oil as a diesel fuel extender

A blend of 2/3 No. 2 diesel oil and 1/3 degummed soybean oil was investigated as a diesel fuel extender. Crankcase oil contamination and engine performance was measured over a 600 hour period. Engine performance did not deteriorate and it is concluded that this 2:1 blend is a viable fuel for agricultural engines.
