Wind Turbine Performance and Array Spacing.
Technical Report

OSTI ID:5438570
The quantity and the quality of the wind resource directly effects the amount of power produced by a wind turbine (WT). A turbine responds not only to the overall strength of the wind but also to the more rapid oscillations in the wind flow with respect to both speed and direction (i.e., turbulence). When considering an array of WT's not only is the ambient (free air) flow important but equally significant is the wake impact of upwind turbines on downwind machines. Windfarm power losses due to turbulent winds and/or wake interaction can be substantial.
