The study described in this report was conducted in response to Section 5 of the Nuclear Safety Research and Development Act of 1980 (PL 96-567) to consider the establishment of an academy to train Corps professionals. The purpose of this study is to provide background on the origins, mission, organizational structures, students, instructional modes, and instructional outcomes of federal training academies operated by federal agencies. This study presents decriptive information to provide a framework for decisions about the possible development of a federal academy to meet nuclear safety training needs. It should be noted that the academies described in this report were identified and analyzed totally objectively. At no time did the study assume that a nuclear academy would or would not be established.
