This paper considers the use of discrete point vortices in 3-D (or {open_quotes}vortons{close_quotes}), to compute the development of unsteady incompressible flows, using a parallel distributed memory architecture. The implementation of the basic inviscid vortex algorithm is described, and it is shown that high efficiencies are readily achieved (using a 32 transputer MIMD machine as a testbed). Procedures to model the vortex stretching and tilting, to approximate the far field interactions, and to allow viscous diffusion to be modelled are discussed.
